Akira Emoto (柄本 明, Emoto Akira), born on 3rd November 1948, is a renowned Japanese actor. He launched his career in the year 1974 and has been creating a significant impact in the film industry till the present day. In 1999, he received the prestigious Japanese Academy Award for Best Actor for his commendable work in 'Dr. Akagi'. Additionally, he bagged the best supporting actor at the 7th Hochi Film Award for his remarkable performances in 'Dotonbori River' and 'Hearts and Flowers for Tora-san'.

Apart from his professional career, Emoto embraced his personal life with actress Kazue Tsunogae, unfortunately, she passed away in 2018. This partnership blessed him with two sons, Tasuku Emoto and Tokio Emoto, who have also pursued their career in acting. Over the years, Emoto has been credited with several honors including a Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2011 and Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class, Gold Rays with Rosette in 2019.
