Alec Secareanu

Alexandru 'Alec' Secăreanu, born on 4th December 1984, is an accomplished Romanian actor who gained international prominence for his role as Gheorghe in the critically-acclaimed 2017 film God's Own Country. Prior to this global recognition, Alec had an illustrious career in several Romanian films. He was born in the vibrant city of Bucharest and pursued his passion for acting by studying at the prestigious Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography, completing his studies in 2007. Alec's commitment and talent are evident in his preparation for roles. For his breakout performance in God's Own Country, he spent two weeks working on a farm to gain a profound understanding of his character, Gheorghe, a Romanian migrant worker. British director Francis Lee was insistent on casting a Romanian actor for this role to ensure the authenticity of the character portrayal. His dedication was recognized, earning him a London agent, Equity membership (formerly the British Actors' Equity Association), and a nomination for the 2017 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) in the Best Actor category.
