What's After the Movie
Allen Curtis Jenkins, born as Alfred McGonegal, was an iconic American character actor, voice actor, and singer who left an indelible mark on both stage and screen. Born on April 9, 1900, in Staten Island, New York, Jenkins started his illustrious acting career on the stage back in 1922. He quickly made a mark as a versatile artist, landing a seven-year contract with Warner Bros in 1932. Known for his characteristic gloom-faced wit, Jenkins shone in versatile roles across comedies, dramas, and musicals. He was part of Hollywood's esteemed 'Irish Mafia', a group that included famous names like Spencer Tracy, James Cagney, Pat O'Brien, and Frank McHugh. After his contract ended, Jenkins worked as a freelancer and explored television, a budding industry at the time. He is perhaps most fondly remembered by certain fans as the voice of Officer Charlie Dibble in the Hanna-Barbera TV cartoon series Top Cat (1961–62). Jenkins' career spanned diverse roles, but he remained a consistent and formidable character actor who could always be counted on to add depth and nuance to his work. Deadline was lung cancer, and he passed away on July 20, 1974.
