Ana Gasteyer is an American actress, comedian, and singer, most known for her time as a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 1996 to 2002. She has starred in several sitcoms such as ABC's Suburgatory, TBS's People of Earth, NBC's American Auto, and the popular film Mean Girls. Her early life revolved around Washington, D.C., where she was born to an artist mother and a lobbyist father that later became the mayor of Corrales, New Mexico. With maternal grandparents of Romanian and Greek descent, Gasteyer graduated from Northwestern University School of Communication in 1989. She honed her comedy skills with The Groundlings, a Los Angeles improv sketch comedy group, and secured small roles in diverse TV shows before hitting a career milestone by joining Saturday Night Live in 1996. She played culturally iconic characters and even auditioned for the news parody segment Weekend Update in 2000. Gasteyer transitioned to television, film, and stage after her departure from SNL in 2002, with standout roles in Mean Girls and Broadway musicals such as Wicked and The Royal Family. In 2019, Gasteyer released the holiday album Sugar & Booze with a corresponding Audible Original comedy piece. In 2024, she is set to star as Queen Aggravarian in a Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress.
