Anton Lesser was born on 14th February 1952 in Birmingham, England. This British actor is widely recognized for his roles as Qyburn in HBO's 'Game of Thrones', Harold Macmillan in 'The Crown', Clement Attlee in 'A United Kingdom', Chief Superintendent Bright in 'Endeavour', and Major Partagaz in 'Star Wars: Andor'. An associate of the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company, Lesser has performed numerous Shakespearean roles both on stage and television. Educated at Moseley Grammar School and University of Liverpool, he discovered his penchant for acting. Lesser pursued his interest, attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from 1974 to 1976. On graduation in 1977, he made a strong impression by winning the Bancroft Gold Medal as the most promising actor of his year. He then landed a contract through the casting director of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) due to his impressive performance in 'Comedians' by Trevor Griffiths. As an associate artist with RSC, Lesser has portrayed a variety of Shakespearean characters, including Romeo, Prince Hamlet, Brutus, and Richard III. In addition to his stage career, Lesser has also made a mark in radio and audio books, winning a Talkie Award for his recording of 'Great Expectations'. His contribution has reached as far as BBC Radio and includes a role in 'The Archers'. Lesser's memorable performances also spanned across TV series 'Game of Thrones' and 'Wolf Hall', earning popularity and critical acclaim respectively.
