**Ayo Edebiri** (_Eye-oh ə-DEB-ər-ee_) is an American actress, comedian, and television writer born on October 3, 1995, in Boston. Her career began in 2014 and has since seen her take on various roles in the film and television industry. Her most famous role is as chef Sydney Adamu in the comedy-drama series The Bear. Her outstanding performances have won her several awards, including a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Since 2020, Edebiri has also been a writer and voice actor for Big Mouth and wrote for the comedy series 'What We Do in the Shadows' in 2022. During her early life and education, Ayo, the only child of a Bajan mother and Nigerian father, grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood. She first developed an interest in comedy during her eighth-grade drama class. This interest prompted her to join the improv club at Boston Latin School. At New York University, where she initially intended to study teaching but later switched to dramatic writing, Ayo began pursuing a comedy career and interned at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Her work in comedy extended to various programs, including a scripted digital series on Comedy Central, voice roles in blockbuster animations, and a co-hosting stint in a podcast called Iconography. Edebiri is yet to be married and has no children.
