Carice van Houten

**Carice Anouk van Houten**, born on 5 September 1976, is a Dutch actress best known for her commendable skill set in the acting industry. She began her career with a leading role in the television film Suzy Q in 1999 that won her the very prestigious Golden Calf for Best Acting in a Television Drama. Her success continued to ascend when she bagged the Golden Calf for the Best Actress for Miss Minoes in 2001. Her performance in Black Book in 2006 garnered widespread recognition and praised her talent. It further won her the second Golden Calf for Best Actress with her receiving several nominations from prestigious film societies. Carice van Houten's international fame boosted with her role as Melisandre on the HBO television series Game of Thrones from 2012 to 2019. Van Houten was born in Leiderdorp, Netherlands. She had a keen interest in silent films and often mentioned her preference for playing scenes without dialogues. She has a younger sister, Jelka van Houten, who is also an actress. Van Houten also tried her hand successfully in Martin Koolhoven's TV film Suzy Q and was appreciated for her role in Black Book in 2006.
