Christopher Eccleston is an English actor born on 16 February 1964. His multifaceted career has included Hollywood blockbusters, arthouse films, Shakespearean stage performances, television dramas, and most notably portrayed ninth incarnation of the Doctor in the acclaimed BBC series Doctor Who. He has frequently collaborated with high-profile filmmakers such as Danny Boyle and Michael Winterbottom. Eccleston's performance in Accused (2010) earned him an International Emmy Award. His stage performances range from the title roles in Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macbeth to starring in Strindberg's Miss Julie, Ibsen's A Doll's House, and the Greek tragedy Antigone. He rose to prominence in the film Let Him Have It in 1991 and garnered his first BAFTA nomination after his performance in Our Friends in the North (1996). His personal life saw him marry Mischka in 2011, with the couple divorcing in 2015. They have two children together.
