Dev Patel

**Dev Patel**, born 23rd April 1990, is a celebrated British actor and filmmaker. He has bagged various prestigious awards, including a British Academy Film Award and scored nominations for an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. Deeming him one of the most influential people, Time included Patel in its list of 100 top influential people in the world in 2024. He initiated his career with the character of Anwar Kharral in the E4 teen drama Skins (2007), later gaining widespread recognition through Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (2008). His career progressed with paramount roles in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011), The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015), and Chappie (2015), in addition to a supporting role in The Newsroom (2012–2014). His appreciable performance as Saroo Brierley in Lion (2016) won him the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. Patel also starred in Hotel Mumbai (2018), The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019), The Green Knight (2021), and made his debut as a director with Monkey Man (2024). Patel was born in Harrow, North West London to Indian parents Anita Patel, a care worker, and Raju Patel, an IT consultant. He grew up as an ardent fan of action movies. His educational journey transpired through Longfield Primary School and Whitmore High School where he exhibited his burgeoning acting skills. Patel holds a black belt in Taekwondo. His acting career began with Skins in 2006, leading to his breakthrough performance in Slumdog Millionaire. Despite criticism for The Last Airbender, his role was well received. He starred in numerous films and received several nominations and awards for his moving performances.
