Edith Atwater was an American stage, film, and television actress born on April 22, 1911, in Chicago. She established her Broadway presence with a debut in 1933 and continued to leave her mark with performances in multiple shows including 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' (1939), 'King Lear' (1950), and 'State of the Union' (1945), among many others. Atwater's filmography was equally impressive with roles in movies like 'The Body Snatcher' (1945), 'Sweet Smell of Success' (1957), 'True Grit' (1969), and 'Family Plot' (1976). Aside from Broadway and films, Atwater was well-recognized on the small screen too. From 1964 to 1965, she was a part of the popular television series 'Peyton Place' where she portrayed Grace Morton. She also made her presence felt in other television series like 'Love on a Rooftop', 'Kaz', 'The Rockford Files', 'Hazel', and 'Knots Landing'. As a mark of her contribution and to honor her work, Atwater was made a member of the governing board of Actors' Equity Association. She passed away in 1986 due to cancer, leaving behind her illustrious career in the world of acting.
