Emily Mitchell

Emily Mitchell, born April 26, 1975, is an acclaimed Anglo-American writer with an impressive portfolio. Her first successful breakout was with her debut novel 'The Last Summer of the World', that was published by W. W. Norton & Company in the year 2007. The novel substantially showcases the life of the photographer Edward Steichen during World War I and for its excellence, it was acknowledged as a finalist in the 2008 Young Lions Award for fiction. Besides writing, Emily Mitchell pursued her education seriously. As an undergraduate, she attended Middlebury College, class of 1997, and thereafter moved to New York City where she earned herself a Master of Fine Arts degree from the esteemed Brooklyn College. Here she studied under broad-minded tutelage of Michael Cunningham. Her written works did not limit to novel itself, but they have found places in Guernica, The Indiana Review, AGNI, The Nation, and The Utne Reader. The city of bustling streets, New York, was her residence for many years before she moved to San Francisco, California. Besides writing, Emily Mitchell currently engages as an Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Maryland. Her recent book is ‘Viral: Stories’, published by W. W. Norton on 29 June 2015.
