Frances Conroy

**Frances Hardman Conroy** (Born March 15, 1953) is an acclaimed American actress. Widely recognized for her role as 'Ruth Fisher' in the TV series _Six Feet Under_ (2001–2005), Conroy garnered numerous awards including a Golden Globe and three Screen Actors Guild Awards, along with four Primetime Emmy Awards nominations. In addition to her commendable role in _Six Feet Under_, she is also known for portraying the older version of Moira O'Hara in _American Horror Story_, a role which earned her first Saturn Award nomination and a Primetime Emmy Awards nomination. Frances is noted for her diverse roles in several seasons of _American Horror Story_, including Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, and Double Feature. In 2017, she featured in the Hulu original series _Casual_ and in 2019, she starred in _Joker_. Over her career, she has shown remarkable versatility, with roles in theater, film, and television. She started her journey in the 1970s, performing regularly with regional and touring theatrical companies. Conroy's notable film roles include a Shakespearean actress in Woody Allen's 1979 classic, Manhattan. Her Broadway debut in Edward Albee's _The Lady from Dubuque_ received tremendous appreciation. Conroy's richly varied career also includes voice work, such as her role as The Director in the 2023 animated feature film _Nimona_.
