George W. Bush is an American political figure and businessman who served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009. Prior to this, he held the position of the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. Born into the influential Bush family, his father, George H. W. Bush, served as the 41st U.S. president. As a young man, George W. Bush flew warplanes in the Texas Air National Guard before graduating from Harvard Business School in 1975. He then worked in the oil industry and was part-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team before entering politics. He is a member of the Republican Party. During his presidency, he implemented significant tax cuts, and was a proponent of the so-called 'war on terror', leading the nation into wars in Afghanistan and Iraq following the attacks on September 11, 2001. His second term was marked by multiple controversies including his handling of Hurricane Katrina and the 2008 financial crisis. Despite these events, he is often noted for his advocacy of democracy and freedom.
