Julio Gerardo 'Gérard' Hernandez was born on 20 January 1933, in the city of Valladolid, which was part of the Second Spanish Republic at that time. He moved to France and was naturalized in 1975. Hernandez is most famous for his distinguishable mustache and his dense work as a voice actor. He has provided his voice for multiple cartoon and live-action characters in French dubbed versions. Most notable among these are Gonzo from The Muppet Show, Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Hound, and Papa and Grouchy Smurf from The Smurfs. Moreover, he voiced Franz Sanchez, a character from the James Bond film 'Licence to Kill'. His significant films include Coup de Torchon (1981), where he worked alongside Jean-Pierre Marielle and Philippe Noiret. Apart from his work in films, Hernandez is known for his presence on French television during the 1970s and 1980s, where he was featured in game shows like Les Jeux de 20 heures and L'Académie des neuf. He also had a successful stint as the host of Les Affaires sont les Affaires, aired on Canal+ during the mid-1980s.
