Issei Ogata

**Issey Ogata** (イッセー尾形), born as Kazushige Ogata on 22 February 1952, is a multifaceted personality from Japan. He is not only an acclaimed actor, but also a successful comedian, model, and novelist. Ogata nursed an interest in performing arts right from his childhood, which led him to join a theatrical company after graduating from Toyotama High School. His breakthrough came when he won the gold medal at the 'Birth of Comedians' audition. This win opened many doors for him in the Japanese TV industry, with notable roles in Fuji TV's Evil Grandmother and NHK's RinRinto. Ogata also performs solo in a show titled 'Life Never Stops' at GyanGyan Theater in Shibuya. Ogata's acting prowess is not limited to TV roles, as he has worked in major art-house films, delivering unforgettable performances. Some of his memorable roles include playing Ota in Edward Yang's 'Yi Yi', the title character in Jun Ichikawa's 'Tony Takitani', Japanese Emperor Hirohito in Aleksandr Sokurov's 'The Sun', and Inoue Masashige in Martin Scorsese's 'Silence'. Furthermore, Ogata has starred in diverse films such as 'Sorekara', 'Tora-san's Bluebird Fantasy', 'The Homeless Student', 'Teacher and Stray Cat', and 'Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle'.
