Dame Jane Morris Goodall, born as Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall, is an English zoologist, primatologist and anthropologist known to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees. She spent over 60 years studying the social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees, starting her research in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania in 1960. Goodall is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots programme, and has been deeply involved in conservation and animal welfare issues. She also serves as a board member for the Nonhuman Rights Project, and in 2002, she was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
