Joseph Thomas Morton Jr., born on October 18, 1947, is an acclaimed American stage, television, and film actor who has been persistently in the entertainment industry from 1970 until now. Throughout his extensive career, Morton has worked with famed film director John Sayles on multiple occasions, appearing in films like The Brother from Another Planet (1984), City of Hope (1991), and Lone Star (1996). Besides working with Sayles, Morton's film repertoire also includes other noteworthy films such as Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Of Mice and Men (1992), Speed (1994), Apt Pupil (1998), and many more.

Morton has also earned accolades through his television roles, such as Eli Pope in Scandal, a role that won him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2014, and the role of Henry Deacon on the popular TV series Eureka. In addition to acting, Morton proved his versatility in 2019 by narrating the Audible program, The Water Dancer, by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Born to Evelyn, a secretary, and Joseph Thomas Morton Sr., a U.S. Army intelligence officer, Morton's early years were marked by travels due to his father's military service, living in places like West Germany and Okinawa.
