John Benjamin Ireland (January 30, 1914 – March 21, 1992) was a successful Canadian-American actor and film director. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia and raised in New York City, Ireland excelled in his chosen career, becoming well-known for his supporting roles in numerous high-profile Western films. These include famous titles like My Darling Clementine (1946), Red River (1948), Vengeance Valley (1951) and Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957). His talent earned him an Academy Award nomination for All the King's Men (1949), making him the first British Columbia-born actor to receive an Oscar nomination. Ireland's acting prowess wasn't confined to the silver screen. He also made notable appearances in several TV series, and even received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his significant contributions to the television industry. Known for his relationships with notable actresses, he also owned and operated Ireland's, a restaurant in Santa Barbara, until its eventual bankruptcy.
