**Judith Lee Ivey**, born on September 4, 1951, is an esteemed American actress and theatre director, revered for her dynamic career in both film and theatre. She commenced her acting career in 1980 and has left an indelible mark in the industry over the decades. Ivey's talent has not gone unrecognized; she has twice won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Steaming (1981) and Hurlyburly (1984). Besides, Ivey also received a Best Actress In A Play nomination for Park Your Car in Harvard Yard (1992), along with another Best Featured Actress in a Play nomination for The Heiress. Her film career began with a lead role in the 1984 romantic comedy, The Lonely Guy, which paved the way for her subsequent appearances in popular films like The Woman in Red (1984), Compromising Positions (1985), and Brighton Beach Memoirs (1986). Her creditable portrayal in the drama films The Devil's Advocate (1997) and Women Talking (2022) have earned her critical acclaim. Additionally, Ivey's television roles in Down Home (1990-91) and as Bonnie Jean 'BJ' Poteet in the final season of CBS sitcom Designing Women (1992-93) have been equally commendable. She also earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for What the Deaf Man Heard (1997).
