Julie Hagerty

Julie Beth Hagerty was born on June 15, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is well-known as an American actress and model, with her most notable role as Elaine Dickinson in the classic film series Airplane! Other notable roles include parts in 'Lost in America', 'What About Bob?', 'She’s the Man', 'A Master Builder', 'Instant Family', 'Noelle', 'Marriage Story', and 'A Christmas Story Christmas'. Hagerty commenced her career with a strong presence in the Broadway scene, making her Off-Broadway debut in 1979. She established herself as a significant comedic actress after the success of 'Airplane!'. Over the decades, she has also been seen in various major Hollywood films and TV programs. In 2000, she dipped into the realm of audiobook narration with Polly Horvath's book 'The Trolls'. She had a recurring role in the well-received series 'Malcolm in the Middle' and has also lent her voice to the popular animated series, 'Family Guy'.

Hagerty's early life was steeped in the arts. The daughter of a model and singer, and a musician, she already had an actor brother, Michael Hagerty. After completing school education at Indian Hill High School, she started her modelling career at 15 with Ford Models, and by 1972, she had moved to New York to pursue her passion for performance arts. Despite an initial setback with a role being cut from 'All That Jazz', her career consistently thrived, ranging from well-reviewed films to not so warmly received ones. She consistently proved her versatility by moving from naive or spaced-out characters to complex and varied roles in both comedies and dramas. In her personal life, she had been married to Peter Burki from 1986 to 1991 and later married insurance executive Richard Kagan in 1999. She is also a supporter of the Democratic party.
