Kevin McKidd is a critically acclaimed Scottish actor and television director well recognized for his character, Dr. Owen Hunt, in Grey's Anatomy. McKidd started his film acting journey as Tommy Mackenzie in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting (1996). Over his career, he portrayed numerous roles like Colin in Made of Honor (2008), Count Vronsky in Anna Karenina (2000), Lucius Vorenus in Rome (2005–2007), Dan Vasser in Journeyman (2007), and John Soap MacTavish in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Having made his directorial debut in the seventh season of Grey's Anatomy, McKidd has been the recipient of the Prism Award for 'Best Performance in a Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline'.

Born on 9 August 1973, in Elgin, Moray, Scotland, Kevin McKidd hails from the family of Kathleen, a secretary, and Neil McKidd, a plumber. Having attended the University of Edinburgh, he nurtured a love for drama at Queen Margaret University. A prominent figure in the local amateur dramatic group, Moray Youth Theatre, his breakthrough was after auditioning to study Drama at Edinburgh's Queen Margaret University. McKidd, owing to his Scottish roots, provided a voice-over play for video games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He also instigated The Speyside Sessions, a Scottish folk music album which was released in aid of Save the Children.
