Kristen Joy Schaal, known for her distinctive high-pitched, childlike voice, is an American actress, comedian, and writer born January 24, 1978. She has lent her distinctive voice to various characters like Louise Belcher on Bob's Burgers, Mabel Pines on Gravity Falls and provided several voices for BoJack Horseman. Her work on BoJack Horseman earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance. Schaal's live comedy has also been recognized. She won the award for 'Best Alternative Comedian' at the 2006 HBO US Comedy Arts Festival and 'Best Female Stand-up Comedian' at the 2007 ECNY Awards. She even received a nomination for the If.comedy award at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Schaal was born in Longmont, Colorado, to a Lutheran family of Dutch ancestry and grew up on her family's cattle ranch. She graduated from Skyline High School in 1996, attended the University of Colorado in Boulder for a year, and then moved to New York in 2000 to pursue a comedy career. Her career started to take off in 2005 when she was included in the New York article 'The Ten Funniest New Yorkers You've Never Heard Of'. Besides acting and comedy, Schaal has ventured into writing as well. She co-authored a book of humor, The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex, with her husband, former Daily Show writer Rich Blomquist. The book was published in July 2010 by Chronicle Books.
