Lewis Black

Lewis Niles Black, born August 30, 1948, is an American stand-up comedian and actor. Known for his comedy routines that often escalate into angry rants about history, politics, religion, and cultural trends. He established his name as the host of the Comedy Central series 'Lewis Black's Root of All Evil' and for regular appearances on 'The Daily Show's' 'Back in Black' segment. Frequently voted among the top stand-up comedians of all time by Comedy Central, he has also lent his voice to notable animated films like Pixar's 'Inside Out'.

Beyond his work in stand-up and television, Black has worn many hats over the years. He has been a spokesman for the Aruba Tourism Authority and an 'ambassador for voting rights' for the American Civil Liberties Union. From 2022, he has been the chair of the executive committee and the board of directors of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library. His career began in the theatre, acting as a playwright-in-residence and associate artistic director in New York City. Though he is most distinctive for his comedic style, Black has considered George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin, Bob Newhart and Shelley Berman as his comedic influences.
