Luca Marinelli, born 22 October 1984, is a renowned Italian actor known for his striking versatility and gifted performances. His foray into acting has seen him immersed in diverse roles, from Mattia in The Solitude of Prime Numbers (2010), Guido in Every Blessed Day (2012), Andrea in The Great Beauty (2013), Cesare in Don't Be Bad (2015), The Gipsy in They Call Me Jeeg (2016), the title character of Martin Eden (2019), to Nicky in The Old Guard (2020) and the title character of Diabolik (2021). Born to a family with rich acting background, with his father Eugenio Marinelli as a prominent actor and voice actor and his aunt Sonia Scotti, an accomplished actress and voice actress, Marinelli was destined for the film industry. He sharpened his craft at the Silvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2009. His breakout role arrived soon after, in the year 2010 when he starred as Mattia in the Saverio Costanzo's drama film The Solitude of Prime Numbers. Over the years, his exceptional performances have won him critical acclaim and several prestigious awards, including the Pasinetti Award for Best Actor at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival for his role in Don't Be Bad and the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for his portrayal of Martin Eden at the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
