**Mare Winningham**, born as Mary Megan Winningham on May 16, 1959, is a renowned American actress and singer-songwriter. Being the recipient of two Primetime Emmy Awards, she has also gained nominations for an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Tony Awards. Over her extensive career, Winningham has showcased her acting prowess not only in the film industry but also on television and stage. She won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Amber Waves in 1980 and George Wallace in 1998 and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the 1995 film Georgia. From the early beginnings in 1976, Winningham's career flourished, showcasing her talent in films and series such as The Thorn Birds, St. Elmo's Fire, Miracle Mile, Turner & Hooch, to American Horror Story. Winningham made her New York stage debut in the 2007 Off-Broadway musical 10 Million Miles, which earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination. In 2022, she was nominated for a second Tony for her leading performance in Girl from the North Country. Apart from acting, Winningham has a thriving career in music, having recorded four albums showcasing her vocal prowess. Mare Winningham's personal life has seen her in four marriages and she is a mother of five children. She converted to Judaism in her early 40s as a personal decision.
