Mark Ian Addy is a distinguished English actor, known for a variety of roles in both television and film. Born on 14th January 1964 in York, England, he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, graduating with an Acting Diploma in 1984. His first television appearance was in 1987 in The Ritz and he gained further recognition on the sitcom The Thin Blue Line (1995–96), and the American sitcom Still Standing (2002–06), among others. He reprised his debut film role as Dave Horsefall in The Full Monty (1997) in a television series of the same name, which began airing in 2023. His notable film roles include The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000), A Knight's Tale (2001), Robin Hood (2010), Downton Abbey (2019), and The Lost King (2022). Addy is especially recognized for his portrayal of King Robert Baratheon in the HBO series Game of Thrones (2011). He also starred in the BBC One fantasy drama series Atlantis (2013-15), and in the BBC television drama New Blood (2016). His accomplished film career has seen him leading in The Full Monty (1997), and featuring in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas in 2000. For his impactful performances, Addy was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of York in 2019. Throughout his career, Addy has successfully demonstrated his acting versatility, and continues to hold a significant place in both British and international cinema.
