Mark Strong

What's After the Movie

Mark Strong

British actor Mark Strong, who was born as Marco Giuseppe Salussolia on August 5, 1963, has a rich cinema portfolio and history in the entertainment industry. Best known for many roles including Prince Septimus in Stardust (2007), Archibald in RocknRolla (2008), Lord Henry Blackwood in Sherlock Holmes (2009), and Frank D'Amico in Kick-Ass (2010), his dynamic performances have dominated both box offices and critics alike. Born and raised in London, Strong's early life was spent on the move across the city, through Walthamstow, Clapton, Stoke Newington, and Edmonton. Acting was not his first career choice, and he originally aspired to be a lawyer but was drawn back to the UK after studying German law in uni at Munich. It was then that he chose to pursue English and drama at Royal Holloway, University of London, and later honed his craft at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Throughout his career, he has shown exceptional versatility and propensities for both lead and supporting roles across a variety of genres, and has been recognized for his work in a number of awards, including a BAFTA nomination. Rumours of his being offered a role in No Country for Old Men circulate, but he maintains they are not accurate. He nevertheless had a very successful year, portraying Prince Septimus and other characters. He went on to collaborate twice with Ridley Scott and thrice with director Guy Ritchie. He's also co-starred in several renowned films, including Robin Hood, Green Lantern and Shazam! Aside from his work on the big screen, Strong's voice is recognised by many from the BBC's genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? since 2006.
