Mark Wingett

Mark Christopher Wingett, born on 1 January 1961, is an English actor, known for his notable works in 'The Bill', 'EastEnders', 'Hollyoaks' and 'Heartbeat'. Born in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, Wingett spent his early days moving to various places following his Royal Navy officer father. His proclivity for acting was visible from a young age which led him to the National Youth Theatre. His acting career kickstarted with his film debut in 'Quadrophenia' in 1979 portraying a mod named Dave. Wingett took on a variety of roles ranging from press reporter in 'Brookside' (1983) to PC Jim Carver in 'The Bill' (1984), enduring a tenure of 21 years. His character, Jim Carver, was entwined in several major plots, which included his struggles with personal issues like alcoholism and being a victim of domestic violence. After leaving 'The Bill' in 2005, Wingett transitioned to the soap opera 'EastEnders' portraying the character of Mike Swann, and also appeared in 'Heartbeat' as London gangster Terry Molloy. His other ventures include voice overs for the British television version of 'American Chopper'. Besides acting, Wingett has directed several stage productions and has had a stint in publishing with a privately printed pamphlet 'Tattered Troubadour'. His work is not just limited to acting and directing; he is also known for his love for scuba diving, fishing, skiing and wreck hunting.
