Mikael Åke Persbrandt, born on 25 September 1963, is a renowned actor from Sweden. He has gained notoriety through the wide variety of roles he has played in Swedish and international cinema. One of Mikael's best-known roles in Swedish films is Gunvald Larsson in the Beck series of movies. His portrayal of Gunvald Larsson won him much acclaim, but in 2015, Persbrandt reported that he was planning to leave this popular role. Mikael's international fame grew exponentionally when he took the starring role in the Academy Award-winning feature, In a Better World which was directed by Susanne Bier. His exceptional performance earned him a 2011 European Film Award nomination for Best Actor. Other notable roles include Carl Hamilton from the novels by Jan Guillou, Beorn in The Hobbit, and Jakob Nyman in the English TV series Sex Education. * * Mikael Persbrandt has also an extensive theatre career, having performed on stage with the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm apart from numerous film and TV roles. He won the Guldbagge Award for Best Actor in a leading role twice - in 2009 for Everlasting Moments and in 2014 for Nobody Owns Me. In 2019, he played Jakob Nyman in the Netflix comedy drama Sex Education. Mikael has often been lauded in Swedish media for his good looks and frequently appears on lists of most attractive Swedish men. Despite facing legal issues related to drug use, he continues to captivate audiences with his varied and powerful performances.
