Misa Shimizu (清水美沙, Shimizu Misa, born 25 September 1970) is a renowned Japanese actress, known for her versatile acting skills and contribution to the Japanese film industry. She began her journey in the world of cinema by winning the heroine audition for the 1987 film Shōnan Bōsōzoku, marking her screen debut. Shortly thereafter, Misa landed a leading role in NHK's morning drama series Seishun Kazoku in 1989. She rose to international fame for her portrayal of the protagonist Keiko in the film The Eel, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The Eel not only catapulted her career but also earned her a nomination for the Japanese Academy Award for Best Actress. Misa Shimizu is also known for her regular appearances in films directed by Masayuki Suo. In 1992, she was awarded the Best Actress at the 17th Hochi Film Award for her commendable performances in Okoge, Sumo Do, Sumo Don't, and Future Memories:Last Christmas. Over the years, she has built an impressive and diverse filmography including movies like Warm Water Under a Red Bridge, The Sea is Watching, Paper Moon Affair, and many more.
