Monia Chokri (born 27 June 1982) is a celebrated Canadian actress and filmmaker, who began her career in acting upon completion of her studies at Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal in 2005. Gifted with talent, she roots back to a diverse ancestry where her mother is of Scottish descent, while her father is Tunisian with Berber roots. Her initial steps in acting embraced multiple theatre productions in Montreal. Unfolding her abilities, Chokri started to secure pivotal roles in movies directed by acclaimed Québécois filmmakers. She gained notable accolades for her role in Heartbeats (Les Amours imaginaires), where she played a young woman who falls in unrequited love with the same man as her gay male best friend. She was further recognized by Les Inrockuptibles and Le Monde for her impeccable acting skills. Apart from acting, Chokri also began to explore film direction. Her debut as a director came in 2013, with the short film An Extraordinary Person. The film bagged the Prix Jutra for Best Live Action Short Film, setting her career as a filmmaker at new heights. Her first feature film as a director, A Brother's Love (La femme de mon frère), made its debut at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Chokri's Babysitter saw her in dual roles, as both the director and an actress in 2022, earning her a Canadian Screen Award nomination.
