Noam Chomsky, also known as Avram Noam Chomsky, is prominently known for his work in linguistics, political activism, and social criticism. He is often known as the 'father of modern linguistics' and is a major figure in analytic philosophy. He was a laureate professor of linguistics at the University of Arizona and an institute professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is considered amongst the most cited living authors. Chomsky has authored more than 150 books majorly about linguistics, war, and politics. Chomsky has been consistent on his critics of U.S. foreign policy, contemporary capitalism, and corporate influence on political institutions and the media. Furthermore, Chomsky was born to Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants in Philadelphia, who developed an early interest in anarchy from alternative bookstores in New York City. His important works include Syntactic Structures, which played a major role in reformatting the study of language.
