Francis Patrick Roach, better known as Pat Roach, was an English actor, professional wrestler, martial artist, and author. Born in Birmingham, West Midlands, he first came into prominence as a professional wrestler under the name 'Judo' Pat Roach, later being billed as 'Bomber' Pat Roach and 'Big Pat Roach'. Roach's first official wrestling match was against George Selko in 1960, going on to hold both the British and European heavyweight championships. In the 1970s, Roach transitioned to acting, his first noticeable role being the red-bearded bouncer in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. His career in film included roles in various renowned films such as Barry Lyndon, Clash of the Titans, Never Say Never Again, Red Sonja, Willow, Conan the Destroyer, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. George Lucas, impressed by Roach, cast him in several parts in the Indiana Jones series. *Television audiences will remember Roach as the West Country bricklayer Brian 'Bomber' Busbridge in the 1980s British series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. Apart from acting and wrestling, Roach was a businessman, who co-managed a scrapyard and a gym in Birmingham during the 1990s.
