Rafe Joseph Spall, born on 10 March 1983, is an English actor known for his roles across stage and screen. Spall's film appearances span of a wide array of genres, from the British street culture drama 'Kidulthood' (2006), Edgar Wright's 'Hot Fuzz' (2007), the acclaimed drama 'One Day' (2011), the historical drama 'Anonymous' (2011), sci-fi thriller 'Prometheus' (2012), Ang Lee's award-winning 'Life of Pi' (2012), up to Steven Spielberg's 'The BFG' (2016), and the eagerly anticipated 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' (2018). His versatile acting skills are not limited to the movies, as he is also known for starring in the TV series The Shadow Line and Black Mirror, as well as the Apple TV+ comedy series Trying, began in May 2020.

As the second of three children of Shane (née Baker) and the esteemed actor Timothy Spall, Rafe was named after the protagonist in The 'Knight of the Burning Pestle', a nod to his father's role at the Royal Shakespeare Company. His early life was marked by challenges, including his father's leukemia diagnosis when Rafe was only 14. Despite personal and academic adversity, he pursued his ambition to act, joining the National Youth Theatre at the age of 15 and subsequently breaking through to attain roles of varying significance in the industry. Beyond his work in television and film, Spall has displayed his acting prowess on renowned stages, with roles in theaters ranging from the National to the Donmar Warehouse, the Royal Court, and the Bush Theatre.
