Regina Rene King, an American actress, director, and producer, was born on January 15, 1971, in Los Angeles County, California. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and four Primetime Emmy Awards. King first gained attention for her part in the popular television sitcom 227 (1985-1990). Her succeeding roles included the film Friday (1995), the animated series The Boondocks (2005-2014), and the crime television series Southland (2009-2013). She garnered acclaim for her performances in the ABC anthology series American Crime (2015-2017), Netflix's miniseries Seven Seconds, and HBO's limited series Watchmen (2019). She has played supporting roles in many drama films including Boyz n the Hood (1991), Poetic Justice (1993), How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998), and Ray (2004). She has also starred in comedies like Down to Earth (2001) and Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003). Her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In addition to acting, King has directed episodes for several television shows and most notably made her feature film directorial debut with One Night in Miami... (2020). In 2019, Time magazine named King among the 100 most influential people in the world. She continues to mesmerize audiences with her captivating performances, delivering deep and emotive portrayals of diverse characters in various film and television projects.
