Renato Carpentieri, born on April 2, 1943, is an esteemed Italian actor, director, and playwright. Originally from Savignano Irpino, Avellino, Carpentieri embarked on his career in Naples where he was notably engaged in the organization and promotion of cultural events with the group Nuova Cultura from 1965 to 1974. An influential figure in Italian theater, in 1975, he co-founded the stage company Teatro dei Mutamenti, offering his expertise as a director, actor, and playwright until 1980. A late bloomer in film, Carpentieri made his debut in 1990, at almost fifty years old, in Gianni Amelio's Porte aperte. His commendable performance led to numerous roles in famous films such as 'The Yes Man' (1991), 'The Stolen Children' (1992) and 'Caro diario' (1993). Remarkably, he won a Nastro d'Argento in 1993 for best supporting actor for his role in Gabriele Salvatores' Puerto Escondido. Carpentieri was appointed as the artistic director of the Neapolitan stage company Libera Scena Ensemble in 1995, a position he continues to hold. His more recent work includes films like 'Tenderness' (2017), 'The Hand Of God' (2021), and 'Bare Hands' (2024).
