Anthony Robert McMillan OBE, known professionally as Robbie Coltrane, was a Scottish actor born on 30 March 1950. He achieved worldwide recognition for his role as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series in the 2000s. Recognized for his services to drama, he received an OBE in the 2006 New Year Honours by Queen Elizabeth II. Coltrane also received the Evening Standard British Film Award, Peter Sellers Award for Comedy in 1990, and was honored for his 'outstanding contribution' to film at the British Academy Scotland Awards in 2011. Coltrane launched his career alongside Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson in the sketch series Alfresco. He later gained prominence for his portrayal of criminal psychologist Dr. Eddie 'Fitz' Fitzgerald in the ITV television series Cracker—an acclaim that won him the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor three years in a row from 1994 to 1996. He also starred in the four-part Channel 4 series National Treasure in 2016, earning him a British Academy Television Award nomination. Coltrane's filmography includes roles in Mona Lisa, Nuns on the Run, the James Bond films GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough, and animated films like The Tale of Despereaux and Brave.
