Ruth Wilson MBE is a highly-respected English actress with a career spanning various genres from crime dramas to fantasy series. Born on 13 January 1982, Wilson has performed several notable roles on both television and cinema. Early in her career, she played the title role in Jane Eyre (2006), followed by her roles in Luther (2010-2013, 2019) and The Affair (2014–2018). Notably, she won the 2020 BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Actress for her role in His Dark Materials (2019–2022). Some of her film highlights include The Lone Ranger (2013), Saving Mr. Banks (2013), and Dark River (2017).

Wilson has received recognition for her theatrical performances as well, being a two-time winner and three-time nominee of the Olivier Award. She has also been nominated twice for the Tony Award for her Broadway performances in Constellations and King Lear. Her incredible talent has earned her a Golden Globe for The Affair and several other nominations. She was born in Ashford, Surrey as the daughter of Nigel Wilson and Mary Metson, and she has three older brothers. She attended the University of Nottingham and later graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in July 2005.
