Shirley MacLaine (born Shirley MacLean Beaty; April 24, 1934) is an American actress, author, activist, dancer and singer with a career spanning over 70 years. MacLaine is one of the last remaining stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood, receiving numerous accolades including an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, six Golden Globe Awards, and two BAFTA Awards among others. MacLaine made her acting debut in the 1950s and rose to prominence with starring roles in notable films such as Around the World in 80 Days, Some Came Running, and The Apartment, and later won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the comedy-drama Terms of Endearment. MacLaine also had notable roles in The Turning Point, Being There, Madame Sousatzka, and Steel Magnolias.

Apart from her acting career, MacLaine has made significant contributions as a writer penning several best-selling books on subjects like spirituality, metaphysics, and reincarnation.
