Simon Baker

Simon Lucas Baker (born 30 July 1969) is a renowned Australian actor, filmmaker, and model, best known for his standout role as Patrick Jane in the CBS drama series The Mentalist (2008–2015), a role which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Born in Launceston, Tasmania, Baker had a transient upbringing; a result of familial difficulties and relocations. His original passion was surfing, a hobby that remained critical in his formative years.

His acting career kicked off with a commercial role he chanced upon while waiting for a friend's audition. A pivot into television followed, with key roles in Australian television shows. His talent gained recognition when he won the Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in 1993. A consequent relocation to the United States saw him taking on significant roles in L.A. Confidential and The Guardian. Apart from acting, he made his directorial debut with the 2017 film Breath, which he also co-wrote and co-starred in. An acknowledgement of his contribution to the industry came in 2012 when he was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and in 2013 with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
