Mary Elizabeth "Sissy" Spacek (/ˈspeɪsɛk/; born December 25, 1949) is an eminent American actress and singer, known for her rich array of roles and commendable performances. She has indulged in a varied range of roles, receiving great recognition including an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award. Also, she has been nominated for four BAFTA Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award. She was saluted with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.

Spacek initially desired for a singing career, recording a 1968 single, "John You Went Too Far This Time". However, after a faltered music career, she directed her focus to acting, studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Over the years, Spacek has delivered power-packed performances in numerous films including Carrie (1976), Missing (1982), The River (1984), Crimes of the Heart (1986), and In the Bedroom (2001); receiving Oscar nominations for several.
