Suraj Sharma (born 16 March 1993) is an Indian actor who made his film debut in 2012, with the globally acclaimed movie 'Life of Pi'. The film, directed by Ang Lee, was adapted from a novel bearing the same name. Sharma earned remarkable critical acclaim alongside a BAFTA Rising Star Award nomination for his maiden role. In 2014, Sharma made a vivid impression in his role as Aayan Ibrahim in the 4th season of the Showtime series 'Homeland'. Between 2018 and 2020, he played the character of Rakesh Singh in the CBS comedy-drama series 'God Friended Me'. Sharma was brought up in a Malayali family in New Delhi, India. His father, Gokul Churai, is a software engineer and a chess player, whereas his mother, Shailaja Sharma, is an economist. He later studied at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. Sharma's expressive eyes and innocent appearance were the defining factors imputed to his selection for the role in 'Life of Pi'. His performance garnered glowing reviews, earning him a nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
