Timothy Blake Nelson, born May 11, 1964, is an acclaimed American actor, playwright, director, producer, and screenwriter that has been a pivotal figure in Hollywood since making his first appearance in 1989. Defined as a modern character actor, Nelson's impressive repertoire of roles includes Delmar O'Donnell in O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), Gideon in Minority Report (2002), Doctor Steve Pendanski in Holes (2003), and Samuel Sterns in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's also recognized for his work in HBO's limited series, Watchmen (2019), receiving a Critics' Choice Television Awards nomination in 2020.

Nelson's directorial work is also highly regarded. His film Eye of God (1997) was nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and an Independent Spirit Award. His first novel City of Blows was published in 2023. Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nelson is a graduate of Brown University and Juilliard School. His career began in theatre, before transitioning to film and TV. In addition to acting, his work includes directing film versions of his plays and original screenplays, such as Kansas (1998) and Leaves of Grass (2009). Nelson resides in New York City with his wife, Lisa Benavides, and their three sons.
