Vivien Leigh, born as Vivian Mary Hartley on the 5 November 1913, was a British Actress known for her beautiful appearance and impressive acting talents. She shot to worldwide fame through her role as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. She managed to secure this coveted award a second time for her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in the film adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951). With a career stretching over 30 years, Leigh played roles from Noël Coward and George Bernard Shaw comedies to classic Shakespearean characters. Despite her impressive career and recognition, her personal life was marred by periods of mental and physical health problems. Leigh suffered from bipolar disorder and recurrent bouts of chronic tuberculosis, first diagnosed in the mid-1940s. In addition to her acting career, Leigh is also known for her turbulent marriage to actor Laurence Olivier.
