Andrew Adamson

Andrew Ralph Adamson MNZM (born 1 December 1966) is a New Zealand film director, producer, screenwriter and animator. He gained worldwide recognition for directing the DreamWorks animated films _Shrek_ (2001) and _Shrek 2_ (2004), both of which were based on the book of the same name by William Steig. His work was acknowledged with an Academy Award nomination for _Shrek 2_. Adamson's talent also extended to live-action films, demonstrated by his direction and co-writing of the film adaptations of C. S. Lewis's novels, _The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe_ (2005) and its sequel _The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian_ (2008). Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Adamson initially wanted to be an architect but was recruited by Pacific Data Images to work in the United States following a car accident. His early career was peppered with success, serving as a technical director for _Toys_ (1992) and _Angels in the Outfield_ (1994) and visual effects supervisor in _Batman Forever_ (1995). His work on _Shrek_ and its sequel, both big-budget Hollywood films, cemented his success in the film industry, and he continued to achieve critical acclaim and commercial success with _The Chronicles of Narnia_ series. In 2018, he collaborated with the experimental hip hop group Death Grips on their album _Year of the Snitch_. Adamson's films have received several accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for _Shrek_.
