What's After the Movie

Ben Younger

**Ben Younger**, born on October 7, 1972, is an acclaimed American screenwriter and film director. Born and brought up in Brooklyn in a Modern Orthodox Jewish household, Younger was initially groomed for a career in politics, serving as a legislative aide and managing the State Assembly campaign for Queens Democrat Melinda Katz. However, the contentment he sought remained elusive, leading him to switch paths for a career in filmmaking. His subsequent journey isn't just about his directorial success - it's also about his grit to leave a flourishing political career to pursue his passion. By 1995, he had begun expressing his creativity through writing and directing short films, music videos, and commercials. His first film, which followed an intensive two-year researching process, was **Boiler Room** in 2000, a corporate drama which unveiled the crooked world of 'chop shops'. In 2005, **Prime** came out as Younger's second film, featuring the unique relationship between a young Jewish man and an older gentile woman. By portraying a subject seldom touched, this romantic comedy earned considerable recognition. His subsequent work, **Bleed for This**, was a biographical drama based on the life of World Champion Boxer Vinny Pazienza released in 2016. Known also as a fervent motorcycle racing fan, Younger has expressed his wish to make a road racing film. While being actively engaged in the film industry, he has also been published in *The New Yorker* and sold several television pilots to prominent channels like FX, NBC, ABC, and Fox. His dynamic personality and career switches bear testament to Younger's inventive spirit in the industry.
