Born in Alexandria, Scotland, and raised in Guernsey, she embarked on her studies in acting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Her initial interest in acting later turned to television work when she took work experience on the television series Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned. She is recognized for hosting engaging documentaries in her name, 'Dawn...', detailing attitudes about nudity, lesbianism, dating, and pregnancy for BBC Three. In 2009, O'Porter presented 'The Booby Trap,' a documentary exploring breast cancer for Sky1. She expanded her reach by starting her own television production company Hot Patootie TV, and appeared on popular television shows such as E4 drama Skins and Balls of Steel. Beyond her work in television, O'Porter also excels as a writer. She has published work in many publications, around feminism and aspects of women's lifestyles. Her love for writing resulted in acclaimed novels such as 'Paper Aeroplanes,' 'The Cows,' and 'So Lucky,' the latter making it to the Sunday Times Best Sellers list. Active in charity, O'Porter was a founding member of Help Refugees (now called Choose Love).
