Dean DeBlois

Dean Allan DeBlois, born June 7, 1970, is a celebrated Canadian filmmaker and animator, highly recognized for writing and directing Oscar-nominated animated feature films. Best known for films such as Lilo & Stitch for Walt Disney Animation Studios (alongside Chris Sanders), the much-loved How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy for DreamWorks Animation (the first film was co-created with Sanders), and the critically acclaimed documentary Heima about the Icelandic band Sigur Rós. DeBlois was inclined towards comic books from a young age, which he credits for influencing his drawing ability, imagination, and storytelling. His career kicked off as an assistant animator and layout artist for Hinton Animation Studios/Lacewood Productions in Ottawa, Ontario while simultaneously honing his skills at Sheridan College's renowned three-year Classical Animation program. Throughout his illustrious career, DeBlois has worked with leading animation studios including Sullivan Bluth Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and DreamWorks Animation. He has proven successful in various roles such as layout artist, character designer, storyboard assistant, and, eventually, director. His passion and innovation have also led him to explore other genres, including live-action feature film projects and music documentaries.
