Dror Moreh

Dror Moreh, born on 4 November 1961, is an acclaimed Israeli cinematographer and director. Moreh's impact within the film industry first started when he directed his debut film, Sharon, which is an intriguing investigation into the appeal of Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon. He gained significant recognition with this debut and solidified his standing in the industry. His subsequent film, The Gatekeepers (2012), garnered considerable attention and was even nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the prestigious 85th Academy Awards. This film is particularly renowned for its controversial interviews with the head of Israel's Security Agency, Shin Bet. Moreh's comments on the film marked his understanding of the balance between power and force and the limitations they bring about. He further solidified this notion by suggesting that beyond a certain point, alternative measures need to be taken. The Human Factor, which is centred around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was another notable release from Moreh in January 2021. His breadth of work extended with the release of Corridors of Power: Should America Police the World?, a DMP Films production in association with the BBC, directed by Moreh himself and released in August 2024. This eight-episode production spans the administrations of four US Presidents and examines how American leaders responded to reports of genocide, war crimes, and mass atrocities from the end of the Cold War until 2016. Over the years, Moreh has become a stalwart in the Israeli cinema scene and has contributed widely to global cinema through his thought-provoking work.
