What's After the Movie
Eytan Fox (Hebrew: איתן פוקס; born on August 21, 1964) is an accomplished Israeli film director, producer, and screenwriter. Born in New York City, Fox relocated to Israel with his family when he was just two years old. His father, Seymour Fox, served as a Conservative rabbi and as a professor of Jewish education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, while his mother, Sara Kaminker-Fox, held the position of head of the Jerusalem city council. Fox, besides his impressive parents, also has two brothers, David and Danny. It is worth noting that General Yehuda Fox is a cousin to him. Fox's exposure to diverse cultures from a young age arguably had a significant influence on his work in the film industry. After completing his national service in the army, Fox furthered his educational pursuits at Tel Aviv University's School of Film and Television. Fox, who is openly gay, often incorporates themes related to sexuality as well as the Israeli–Palestinian conflict into his work. Fox maintains a long-term relationship and professional collaboration with his partner, Gal Uchovsky, a skilled screenwriter, producer, and journalist who has significant input in Fox's film scripts. Yossi and Jagger (2002) and Walk on Water (2004) stand as proof of their work together, with the former showcasing a love story between two young Jewish national servicemen. In 2006, Fox was rightfully honored as the inaugural recipient of the Washington Jewish Film Festival's Decade Award, recognizing him for his distinguished commitment to enhancing Jewish cinema over the decade.
